It's time for our first get away! To say I'm excited is an understatement. After a little research and a LOT of talking with friends, I have decided on a weekend in
Weligama. It is actually more of a bay than directly on the Indian Ocean. That is good for many reasons, but the main reason is George! He has no fear of the ocean. This area is a little calmer and will allow him a little more freedom on the beach. After much research and debate, I picked
this hotel. It is a real stretch for us, because it is bare bones. It doesn't have a TV, the pool looks small and the rooms are little for a family of five to squeeze in to. However, I think the no tv/internet thing will be good for us, and they have top marks for cleanliness, and they speak English! Plus, spending less on the room leaves more money for the
surfing lessons Erik and Ella are dying to take as well as
a fun night out on the town. I'm feeling pretty good about it at the moment. Of course, I will update you on how well the trip actually turns out. We will be celebrating Ella's 11th birthday while we are there. We have never been anywhere warm during her birthday and she cannot wait to celebrate oceanside! There are a few details we still need to work out. 1. Transportation. I think we can take the train, and then just do Uber or Taxi's once we get there. Or we may hire a driver from here. But that means we need to check with the hotel to be sure they have accommodations for our driver. (so many things we didn't have to consider in the States). 2. Obviously there is no fridge/ microwave in the room, and George has a dairy allergy. I need to be sure to bring plenty of powdered soy for those tired milk moments. 3. and... there is the tiny little issue of the fact that we are a family of five staying in a shoebox! But it's a weekend, and we can definitely roll with it. Who knows, we may love it and it will become our go to stop for a little time away.
Planning a get away of your own? I'd love to hear about it!
Ayubowan,
Jennifer
